PRESS: Afghanistan asks Russia to restore 124 facilities

MOSCOW, Mar 13 (PRIME) -- Afghanistan is asking Russia to finance repairs of 124 facilities built by the Soviet Union, newspaper Izvestiya reported on Monday, citing Trade and Economic Secretary of the Afghan embassy Mohammad Kasem.

Kasem said that the list includes the Salang Tunnel, a bakery in Kabul, a polytechnic university, car repair plant Jangalak and electric power plant in the city of Puli Khumri.

He said that recovery of the Afghan economy was discussed earlier, during negotiations between Deputy Energy Minister Yury Sentyurin and Afghan Ambassador Abdul Kochai. Sentyurin named 30 companies ready to invest at the meeting.

Kasem also said that Afghanistan had established a council to increase the Russian footprint in the economy of the country.
